Summer weather is definitely in full force which means pesky weather is amongst us – rain, thunderstorms, and HURRICANES. Weather conditions are the ONE thing I wish I could control when it comes to my business, since my sessions solely rely on how the weather is! One of the most difficult parts of my job is deciding whether we will postpone or go through with a session when the forecast is less than ideal.
Living in florida all 25 years of my life – I have seen it go from 100% of rain alllll day, to a summery, golden sunset in a matter of 20 minutes, and visa versa. It is so unpredictable! I ALWAYS try my best and make the right call. Mother nature sure can be crazy, but my top priority is to ALWAYS think about the quality of your session, and making sure you have the BEST experience possible with your session with me!
So, here are the steps especially during the summer season!
1. Checking the weather every hour or 2 on the day of a session. And days prior. If there is rain in the forecast (which 60% of the time there is), I give a heads up so my clients are aware ahead of time and it is not a complete surprise. The day of – if there is a 40% or more chance during the duration of the session, I again give them another heads up.
2. Also find out if your client is getting professional hair and makeup done. Making sure you make the decision before the time they start this process is so helpful so that they are able to reschedule or cancel their appointment!
3. When rescheduling – I typically always give a list of dates for the clients to choose from so that they aren’t left wondering when their session will be! (If I am not by my calendar – I send another email ASAP with the information).
4. I normally try to make the decision by 3pm-4pm before they start getting ready, or before they leave work early, or have time to cancel babysitters, etc.!
Rescheduling due to weather is SUPER frustrating and such a bummer for not only clients but for me as well. I look forward to each and every one of my sessions and get so excited! SOMETIMES the pesky weather DOES clear up after we have already reschedule but its better to be safe than sorry – I promise it is totally worth it for that summer glow!
Something else I consider when making this decision is how much it has rained that day and if the forecast is calling for heavy cloud for the rest of the evening!
I ALWAYS – ALWAYS – ALWAYS have my clients best interest at heart and only want the best for your session!
